I can't get my Thrustmaster wheel to work.

Burnout won't recognize that I have a joystick plugged in.
I switched to a different joystick and now my controls are messed up and joystick calibration doesn't help.
When I run the game, only keyboard controls are active. I want to use my joystick.

I can't get my Thrustmaster wheel to work.

Make sure your wheel & pedals are on joystick #1. The older T2 defaulted to the wheel on X-axis joystick #1 and the pedals are the Y-axis of joystick #2. If you do have an older T2, you should try the adapter which should come with the unit to put both axis on joystick #1. There is also a potential problem with reading the joystick under Windows 95. If you have screen savers enabled in the properties, it can cause bad reads.

Burnout won't recognize that I have a joystick plugged in.

Burnout will only detect joysticks using the standard joystick port. If a joystick requires a special card or a connector that plugs into multiple places, chances are Burnout won't detect it. Some computers have multiple joystick ports (i.e. one on a soun d card and one on a multi I/O card). Only one of the ports will function at a time and the other must be disabled. Make sure the joystick is plugged into the active port. Look in hardware's manual for how to do this.

Different joysticks return different ranges of values. The calibration settings must be reset in order for Burnout to detect its real range. To do this, select Options from the main selection screen and then Calibrate Joystick 1 or 2. Select the Reset but ton to reset the values and then, once again, move the joysticks to their extents. The new calibration will be saved. As an alternative, you can delete the file JOYSTICK.CAL contained in the SAVE directory and then recalibrate.

In order to use joystick, you must first calibrate your stick. Do this from the Options screen under the Calibrate Joy 1 or 2 tabs. Once calibrated, you must set up your controls to use the joystick. Do this under the Control Setup tab. Pressing the Reset to Default button should set up the default joystick controls. You can customize them from there.
