When I try and run the 3Dfx version of the game, it returns with a DLL not found message.

The 3Dfx drivers won't install on my machine or it says it can't find my hardware.
I added or removed drives or CD so that the CD drive letter has changed. Burnout now tells me to insert the CD. Can I change this without reinstalling?

The 3Dfx version uses native Glide support for the 3Dfx hardware. This requires that a Glide driver be installed on your computer. Some cards come with the drivers, some don't. Burnout has the latest drivers in the directory 3DFX on the CD. If you have a 3Dfx Voodoo or Voodoo Rush, run the file GRTVGR.EXE. The drivers are automatically placed into the Windows directory. If you have a Voodoo 2 card, run the file called GRTV2.EXE. Choose to install the files in the directory where Burnout was installed.

The drivers on the Burnout CD were current at the time. The driver continuously change however and the latest driver will probably need to be downloaded from the 3Dfx web site (www.3dfx.com).

The file BURNOUT.CFG contains the drive letter of the CD. To modify it, simply edit the file using any text editor. The first character in the file is the CD drive letter.

The program hangs when I try to run it.

Try selecting NO SOUND in the SETSOUND program. If the wrong sound card was chosen it is possible that Burnout can hang when trying to play a sound. Another problem may be memory. Burnout requires 16 meg to be free. If you do not have 16 meg or more of m emory installed, chances are Burnout will not run. Check the amount of memory free by running the dos program mem. If you don't have 16 total meg free you will have to free some memory by removing programs from your CONFIG.SYS and/or AUTOEXEC.BAT files. S ee your DOS manual for help. If you are running under Windows you may have to shut down Windows and run under DOS.

Sound card wasn't set up properly. Rerun the SETSOUND utility and select the correct settings. If the sound tests OK in the SETUP program, it should be all right in the game.
